International Private Leased Circuits

Circuit types

Circuits routed by satellite are provisioned to provide the same level of service availability as those routed by cable. Satellites have a propagation delay, typically of 300 milli-seconds. Because of this, circuits routed by satellite are unsuitable for use with certain types of data transmission protocols, and echo cancellation is necessary for circuits carrying voice. Routing with diversity is often provided via satellite.

Data streams from different applications, such as voice, fax and computer data, are normally combined for transmission and separated at the far end by multiplexers and data compression devices. The capacity of the circuit needed between the two sites is given by the sum of the requirements for all the applications running between the sites. Multiplexers are not provided as part of the service.

Circuit performance

International Private Circuits are designed to comply with ITU-T recommendations on performance, with a target availability level of 99.5%. C&W makes every effort to ensure the highest level of circuit performance. Responsibility for circuit performance beyond the theoretical mid-point rests with the overseas carrier.
